$165,000 over five years for cellular research

Brandon, MB (CKLQ) - A significant sum of money has been awarded to an Assistant Professor at Brandon University.

Dr. Vincent Chen will receive $165,000 to support the continuation of cellular research.

Dr. Chen's research is an important key factor to help create a better understanding of cancer, heart disease and stroke.

The funds are from the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada and will be allocated over the next five years.

Dr. Chen is BU's 11th active NSERC Discovery Grant holder.

Meanwhile, Brandon University student Harald Grove is also benefiting from NSERC funding.

A student in the Master of Science (Environmental and Life Sciences) program, Grove will receive $17,500 in funding for his study of the effects of microRNAs on metabolism in the greater wax moth.

He is the recipient of the Alexander Graham Bell Canada Graduate Scholarship-Master's Award.
