Initiative to get more women involved in farming

Brandon, MB (CKLQ) - Canada's new agriculture minister has announced money to encourage more women to become involved in farming.
Marie-Claude Bibeau says Farm Credit Canada's new Women Entrepreneur Program will provide the capital women need to grow their business and to develop their skills.
The F-C-C has committed 500 million dollars over three years for the Women Entrepreneur Loan.
The goal of the Entrepreneur Program is to double the number of women-owned and women-led businesses by 2025.
Ottawa says women accounted for about 29 per cent of all farm operators in 2016.

In Canada, more women are farming and the roles of women on the farm are continuing to evolve.

According to data from Census of Agriculture, out of the nearly 272,000 farmers in Canada, women accounted for 28.7 per cent or nearly 78,000 in 2016.
