Brandon, MB (CKLQ) - The Province is encouraging everyone over the age of six months to get the flu shot.

The annual vaccination campaign has officially begun, and the shot is free to all.

46 people died of the flu last winter, the highest number in three years.

Health Minister Cameron Friesen says if more people get the shot, there will be less stress on the province's emergency wards this winter.

The flu shot, coupled with the pneumococcal vaccine are being offered together to seniors at local public health facilities

Region health authorities will begin immunization clinics in the weeks ahead.
