Winnipeg Police Service members scrutinized

Winnipeg, MB (CKLQ) - Several members of the Winnipeg Police Service are under investigation after an incident where a suspect's arm was broken.

Officials say on the evening of May 14, several officers were in St. Boniface to arrest a man for breach of a court order.

According to police, when officers located the man inside the residence, he was unco-operative, and while these same officers were attempting to employ handcuffs, the man's left upper arm was fractured.

He was taken to Health Sciences Centre where an x-ray confirmed the injury.

Because a fracture of the humerus is defined as a "serious injury" under Independent Investigation Unit regulations, the agency is mandated to investigate.

The investigation is ongoing.
