Police used taser on man

Winnipeg, MB (CKLQ) - The Independent Investigation Unit is starting an investigation after a 46-year-old man was injured during his arrest by Winnipeg Police.

On April 11, Winnipeg Police went to an apartment block on Agnes Street after a report of a man who was agitated and threatening others.

When police arrived, the man was harmed with a hammer and resisted arrest.

Police used a taser on him, and fell down a flight of stairs.

The man was diagnosed with possible fractures to the neck or spine.

The IIU will investigate the incident because a fracture of the vertebrae is defined as a serious injury under IIU regulations.
