Swift Current, SK (CKLQ) – In his first WHL start since March 23rd, 2018, Riley Lamb stood on his head, making 47 saves as the Swift Current Broncos handed the Wheat Kings 4-2 loss on Sunday afternoon.
Looking to build off a win in Moose Jaw on Saturday night, the Wheat Kings found themselves in a hole early.
Just over eight minutes into the game, Ian Briscoe notched his first off the year on a faceoff play to the right of Ethan Kruger. Kruger, who was making his first start since December 30th finished the night with 22 saves.
Brandon would respond off the stick of Zach Wytinck. The Glenboro, MB native took the puck off a faceoff win and cut right into the slot untouched and snapped home his 3rd of the season.
The Broncos would quickly break the tie on the powerplay. Ethan O’Rourke took a feed from Briscoe and slipped the go-ahead marker under Kruger to send the Broncos to the room up 2-1 after 20.
Both teams exchanged second-period powerplay goals. Luka Burzan with his 25th of the year was followed up by Alex Moar’s 2nd to keep the Broncos in front by one.
The Wheat Kings fired everything at Bronco netminder Riley Lamb, outshooting the Broncos 23-7 in the second period, but the Rivers, MB native stood on his head, making several highlight-reel stops.
The "Lamb Show" continued in the third period as the Wheat Kings outshot the Broncos 13-5 but couldn’t get one to drop.
Broncos Captain Tanner Nagel would ice it in the third with his 6th of the season to lift the Broncos to their 9th win of the season, and 2nd win over the Wheat Kings this year.
Brandon drops to 17-18-3-3 on the year and will look to hit the reset button this weekend when they welcome the Kootenay ICE for a pair of games at Westoba Place (7:30 on QCountry Radio)
