Ryder Korczack scored with just over 44 seconds remaining in the third period to break a 2-2 tie and lift the Moose Jaw Warriors to a victory at Mosaic Place, wrapping up the weekend with a clean sweep.
The Wheat Kings bounced back with a solid road effort on Saturday, opening the scoring midway through the opening period. Former Warrior, Luka Burzan stripped the puck from Alek Sekunda and slipped his team-leading third goal of the year through the five-hole of Bailey Brkin.
Brandon continued their strong play in the second, outshooting Moose Jaw 12-7. After an early Warriors powerplay goal, Ben McCartney quickly helped restore the lead.
McCartney who was making his return from suspension, fanned on a one-timer, quickly gather the puck and ripped it past Brkin to put Brandon back in front.
In the third, Keenan Taphorn found a loose puck in front of Ethan Kruger and tucked home his team-leading fourth goal of the season to push the game back to even.
Just when it looked like the game was poised for overtime, Ryder Korczak took a pass from Carson Denomie and beat Kruger through a screen to put the Warriors ahead.
Despite argument from Kruger and Head Coach Dave Lowry that there was goalie interference on the play, the officials ruled it a good goal, handing the Warriors their 3rd victory of the young season.
Kruger finished the night with 28 saves, while Brkin stopped 31 of 33 shots he faced at the other end.
Brandon will now prepare for a weekend three-in-three beginning on Friday when the Vancouver Giants come to town (7:30 at Westoba Place)
