Brandon, MB (CKLQ) – The two-time Western Canada Junior Baseball champions will kick off their 2018 season at Andrews Field on Thursday.
The Brandon A&W Marlins will take on the St. James A’s for their first game of the 2018 season.
After finishing third in the Manitoba Junior Baseball League last year, the Marlins were lucky enough to host the Western Canada championships and win on their home soil.
Head Coach Brad Schoonbaert says it’s very much a different team this year.
"Just by virtue of being in this league, players will out grow this league and we’ll need new players," said Schoonbaert. "This is very much the case this year."
The team will have seven new players on the team this year.
"We don’t expect to win year after year, but I do think we have a good shot this year," said Schoonbaert.
After the opening game on Thursday, the Marlins will play a doubleheader versus Altona at home on Saturday.
They will finish their home stretch to start the year off on May 17 when they take on the Interlake Blue Jays, before hitting the road for seven consecutive games.
