Brandon, MB (CKLQ) – Brandon Wheat Kings forward Stelio Mattheos is the only Wheaties player named to the Canadian roster for World Junior Showcase in Kamloops, BC.
The eight-day Sport Chek World Junior Showcase features Canada, Finland, Sweden, and the United States.
Canada will dress two squads for games against a split Team USA on July 31, before combining again as Team Canada to play Finland on August 2, Sweden on August 3, and close the mini-tournament against the U.S. on August 4.
The Showcase is an opportunity for players to try out for Team Canada for the 2019 World Junior Hockey Championships, set to take place in Vancouver and Victoria.
Mattheos scored 43 goals and had 90 points in the 2017-18 season with the Wheat Kings.
As well as Mattheos, Brandon-born Calen Addison has also been invited to join the team.
The 18-year-old defencemen, scored 11 goals with the Lethbridge Hurricanes last season, and was recently drafted by the Pittsburgh Penguins.
