Brandon, MB (CKLQ) - Mayor Rick Chrest has officially announced his candidacy for a second term in the City of Brandon.
With his wife, Karen, and one of his sons in the audience at City Hall on Friday, Chrest said he wants to build on the collegial atmosphere that's been created in city council.
"People have been saying to me, we're so glad that this council is getting along, getting things done, making decisions, and not caring a lot of baggage with them," said Chrest. "To me it's a bit like a relationship, in that you have to work at it."
He also said council has been working to build financial stability in the past four years.
"We've had very modest tax increases in the last four years, in the last four budgets, with a grand total of a little more than two per cent," said Chrest. "I want to carry that forward for the next four years and not just be a flash in the pan."
No word on his opposition or if, in fact, there will be any.
The election will be held on October 24.
