Brandon, MB (CKLQ) - Seven major capital projects are underway at schools across the province, including one in Neepawa.
More than $129.5 million is planned public school infrastructure capital projects in the academic year 2018-19, which takes into account new schools, major additions and renovations, infrastructure renewal and modular classrooms.
Manitoba government officials say construction is underway on an addition to a middle school in Neepawa.
The addition (34,589 sq. ft.) at Neepawa Area Collegiate Institute in the Beautiful Plains School Division includes eight new classrooms, gym, music room, library and multipurpose room and stand-alone child-care centre with space for 74 children, as well as renovations to existing space.
Construction will cost $16,572,000 and work is expected to be completed by September 2019.
Education and Training Minister Kelvin Goertzen said, "Many of these projects will help build capacity to handle increasing enrollment in our growing communities."
