400 thousand dollar unit will ensure safe responses to firearms related incidents

The Provincial Government will spend 400 thousand dollars on an armoured rescue vehicle for Brandon's Police force.

Justice Minister Cliff Cullen made the announcement in Brandon, noting the new vehicle will ensure safe responses to firearms related incidents.

The armoured unit, which holds up to 10 fully equipped members, will also be made available to other police agencies across Westman.

Brandon Mayor Rick Chrest says the new vehicle "will greatly enshance safety for citizens and officers throughout our region."

Cullen also has also announced funding for a full time co-ordinator for Community Mobilization Westman.  The province is also spending 80 thousand dollars to form Community Mobilization Westman.  The coordinating body includes police, health, education and child and family services groups.  It connects at-risk individuals and families with supports and services.
