Brandon, MB (CKLQ) - An actor-filmmaker says he was stunned by a documentary about the internment of Ukrainian Canadians during the First World War when he was in high school in Saskatoon.
When Ryan Boyko asked his history teacher about it, he was told it never happened.
Boyko, who grew up in a Ukrainian-Canadian household, says that experience sparked a decades-long journey into the little known chapter of Canada's history and led to his feature directorial debut of the film called "That Never Happened.''
This film is the official selection of the Permanent Mission of Canada to the United Nations.
It screened on September 20th, 2018 in Geneva, Switzerland as Canada's contribution to the 70th Anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
"That Never Happened'' will screen in several Canadian cities through Nov. 12 and hit various digital platforms the next day.
