Dauphin, MB (CKLQ) – The Brandon Wheat Kings will once again call the Parkland Region home for the first round of the WHL Playoffs. Dauphin’s Credit Union Place will play host to game 3 and 4 of the WHL Quarter-Final series vs the Medicine Hat Tigers.
While fans in Dauphin will get a chance to cheer on the lone Major Junior hockey club in the province on the ice, parents and minor hockey coaches will get to learn from the Wheat Kings off the ice as well.
General Manager Grant Armstrong will host a Q&A session at the Lions Den on Monday, March 26.
Armstrong hopes to cover a number of topics including player development, talent, competitiveness, character and meeting expectations.
"There is a ton of information out there," said Armstrong. "You owe it to yourself to be well informed."
One of the common misconceptions that many in the hockey world hear from parents is that kids need to play hockey year-round. Something Armstrong doesn’t agree with.
"There is too much focus on year-round hockey. Kids need to play other sports, it makes them a more complete athlete."
The event will be the "unofficial" kickoff to the first two home games of the post-season and is open to open to the public, free of charge and will hopefully give parents in the minor hockey system a different or new perspective.
"Kids today need to play less games and focus more on skill development," added Armstrong. "Today’s game is highly skilled and is played at such a high pace."
Doors to the Lions Den open at 7:30.
