291 new cases and one more death due COVID-19 reported in Manitoba

The province is reporting another death due to COVID-19, a man in his 40s from the Winnipeg health region, increasing the toll to 980. 

Health officials also announced 291 new cases, however, one case has been removed due to data correction. This brings the net-new number of cases today to 290 and the total number of lab-confirmed cases in Manitoba to 39,814.   

Of the new cases; seven are in the Northern health region, 12 in the Interlake-Eastern health region, 29 in Southern health, 31 in Prairie Mountain health, and 212 in the Winnipeg health region. 

In Prairie Mountain health, a total of 354 cases remain active, 77 of those are in Brandon, and province-wide the total number of active cases sit at 2,692. There are also 120 covid patients in hospital battling the virus, and 36 in intensive care units. The current five-day test positivity rate increased slightly to 8.5 per cent provincially, up from 8 per cent on Monday (May 4).

Meanwhile, the total number of variant of concern cases in Manitoba has increased to 2,705, and of those 249 have been identified in Prairie Mountain health. 

The province also declared the outbreak at The Swan Valley Lodge Personal Care Home in Swan River over.
