The province reported two more deaths due to COVID-19 Thursday (July 29), increasing the toll to 1,177.
- a woman in her 40s from the Winnipeg health region, linked to the B.1.1.7 (alpha) variant of concern; and
- a woman in her 70s from the Winnipeg health region, linked to the alpha variant of concern.
Health officials also announced 47 new cases, however, one case has been removed due to data correction. This brings the net-new number of cases today to 46 and the total number of lab-confirmed cases in Manitoba to 57,548.
Of the new cases; one was in Prairie Mountain health, six were in the Northern health and Southern health regions, 13 in the Winnipeg health region, and 21 in the Interlake-Eastern health region.
In Prairie Mountain Health, 44 cases remain active, nine of those are in Brandon, and province-wide there are still 526 active cases. There's also a total of 102 covid patients in hospital, and 29 receiving intensive care.
Meantime, the five-day test positivity rate decreased slightly to 2.1 per cent provincially, down from 2.5 on Thursday (July 29). When it comes to variant of concern cases, the total in Manitoba increased to 16,618. Of those, 1,371 have been discovered in Prairie Mountain Health.
