Saskatoon, SK – The Brandon Wheat Kings let one slip away in Saskatoon on Saturday night.
The Wheat Kings had a 2-0 lead heading to the third period, but the Blades stormed back with four goals in the final frame to stun the Wheat Kings, and send them home from their Saskatchewan road trip empty-handed.
Jonny Hooker scored on a penalty shot in the first period, the first of his WHL career. Brandon is now a perfect two for two on penalty shots this season.
Late in the second, Ty Thorpe found a loose puck in front and buried his first of the season past Nolan Maier.
Maier, who will play in front of his home crowd for Team WHL in the CIBC Canada Russia Series next Wednesday made 22 saves for the win.
At the other end, Jiri Patera was making his first start since October 6th, and turned aside 33 shots in the losing effort. However, he was named the game’s third star.
Brandon’s record now sits at 8-12-0-0 as they head home to welcome the Winnipeg ICE in a rare matinee affair on Remebrance Day Monday. (2:30 on QCountry Radio)
