Could use your donations of non-perishable food and toys
The Brandon United Way is now assembling over 600 Christmas hampers.
The United Way's Marketing Director Bryan Podworny says they extended the application deadline for a week, which has now has passed. They received a total of 842 applications - with 225 of those adopted.
Right now, they're looking for non-perishable food items for hampers, including toys. There are 7 drop-off locations around Brandon:
- Murray’s - 1500 Richmond Avenue - Career Connections - 710 - 3rd Street - Harvey’s - 18th Street - Toymasters - 704 28th Street - Systems Beauty College - 763 13th St - Montana’s - 823 18th Street NE - Planet Kia - 415 18th Street
Podworny says health protocols will be followed at the drop-off spots.
He also says they're creating actual hampers this year, rather than handing out gift cards, because in a year where many traditions have been abandoned, it's nice to have this Christmas tradition continue.
"We need togetherness, we need family, and we need to be in a better mood," says Podworny. "If people are hungry, and if people don't have - which there will be more and more of this year - they will not be in good places, and will need to rely on other services more than ever."
