The United Way Brandon & District kicks-off a full week of events today beginning with the Campaign Launch at the Riverbank Discovery Centre Festival Park.
Tuesday, September 14th is the 'Day of Caring for Seniors' - spreading smiles through music and fun at Personal Care Homes in Brandon & Virden. The United Way brings the universal tool of music to personal care homes, filling the air with fun, upbeat sounds and messages from the community to lift spirits and bring smiles to those that are all too often left alone.
Wednesday, September 15th, you can part in the 'Bare Necessities' drive. Can you imagine having to go to school or work without socks or underwear? Can you imagine the impact it would have on your day, perhaps embarrassed that you had to make a choice between making a rent payment or buying the basic necessities for you and your family? You can collect individually or as a group, and drop off socks and underwear for all ages, diapers and formula, tampons and pads, shampoo, soap, toothbrushes & toothpaste to 2940 Victoria Avenue. The items will all be sorted and distributed to services in Brandon so those that are in a tough situation can have a little lift in their day.
Thursday, September 16th is 'Community Action Day' (non-profit volunteer projects). The United Way Brandon & District is about more than raising money for local agencies, it's also about opportunities to volunteer and getting tasks done that may otherwise be put off. On Thursday, the United Way will group volunteers with non-profit agencies throughout Brandon to see their projects completed. These projects include everything from clean ups to painting, organizing to construction. Are you part of a non-profit that needs help? Are you a volunteer that would love to donate some time? Let the United Way know ASAP!
Friday, September 17th is the day for the '3 Club Monte Golf Tournament' at Glen Lea Golf Course. It's a fun tourney where each golfer is only allowed 2 clubs and their putter. Whether truly devoted to the game and using this as a test of skill, or as a golfer that really wants to add some FUN to the round, this is THE tournament to be in. Entry is just $100 per golfer and includes 18 holes, a cart and lunch. The best part? Every dollar will go right back into the community. Register before it sells out; the deadline to get in on the action is September 10th.
