Brandon police arrest woman for allegedly spraying officer with bear mace

A Brandon police officer was reportedly sprayed in the face with bear mace during an arrest yesterday 

At 8:36 am, officers responded to the 1200 block of Rosser Avenue on an unrelated matter. Two intoxicated women were located in the area. One was observed with a large knife sticking out from a bag she was carrying. While speaking with her, the other attempted to run from officers. Police began to chase her, at which time she pulled a can of bear mace from her bag and sprayed one of the cops in the face. The officer was able to deploy his Taser to gain control. The 31-year-old was placed under arrest for Possession of a Prohibited Weapon, Resist Arrest, Assault Peace Officer with a Weapon, and Public Mischief for providing a false name.  No serious injuries were sustained.  The accused was lodged to appear in court. 

Also, police say the woman initially observed with the knife was also placed under arrest for Possession of a Weapon, Carry a Concealed Weapon, Failing to Comply with an Undertaking, and Public Mischief for providing a false name. She was confirmed to be on an Undertaking with a condition not to possess or consume alcohol.  The 35-year-old was lodged to be released when sober for court in October.

On July 21st at 1:26 pm, a search warrant was executed on Westaway Bay due to an ongoing investigation.

A 27-year-old man was located and arrested for Armed Robbery, Break, Enter and Commit, Unauthorized Possession of a Prohibited Weapon, and Assault with a Weapon. The accused was also confirmed to have an outstanding warrant for his arrest for Assault with a Weapon x4, administer a Noxious Substance, Break, Enter and Commit, and Unauthorized Possession of a Prohibited Weapon. He was scheduled to appear in court this morning.

A 21-year-old woman was also located and arrested for Careless Storage of a Firearm, Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm, Possession of a Firearm Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized, Possession of Proceeds of Crime, and Possession of a Weapon.  She was released to appear in court in September.

On July 21st at 2:19 pm, an 18-year-old man turned himself into Brandon Police Service. He was confirmed to have an outstanding warrant for his arrest from Dauphin RCMP. He was released to appear in court in September.

On July 21st at 5:21 pm, officers responded to the 300 block of 6th Street for report of a man threatening a resident. The suspect was located in the area. He was found to have two knives and a pellet gun in his possession. The 41-year-old was placed under arrest for Possession of a Weapon x3. He was released to appear in court in September.

On July 21st at 7:35 pm, officers attended the 3500 block of Victoria Avenue for report of a disturbance. Security at the establishment indicated that two patrons had been causing ongoing problems. They were observed to be intoxicated, and family was not willing to care for them. A 30-year-old man and a 29-year-old woman were lodged to be released when sober.

On July 22nd at 12:54 am, officers attempted to speak with a woman walking in the 400 block of Richmond in the middle of the street. She continued to walk away but was eventually stopped. The woman was found to be intoxicated with no place to stay. The 29-year-old was lodged to be released once sober.

On July 21st at 7:57 pm, officers attended Cornell Bay on an unrelated matter when a man was observed on his bike with a can of bear mace protruding from his pocket. The 46-year-old was arrested for Possession of a Prohibited Weapon and Possession of a Prohibited Weapon Contrary to a Prohibition Order. He was released to appear in court in September.

On July 22nd at 1:58 am, officers conducted a traffic stop in the 500 block of Lorne Avenue East. The driver was confirmed to be on an Undertaking with a condition to abide by a curfew of 10 PM - 6AM. The 50-year-old was arrested for Fail to Comply with Undertaking and released to appear in court in September.
