Brandon's annual 'Relay for Life' cancer fundraiser will look different this year because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Local committee chair, Jeff Thompson, says it'll be held online on June 13th on their Facebook page.
"It's an interactive way for people to be involved in the comfort of their home while physical distancing, and really the event celebrates survivors, supports those living with cancer and to remember those who we've lost," says Thompson. "We're encouraging anyone who's participating to share what they're doing at their home, whether they're running or walking, or whether they're just enjoying the event."
He says "nearly one-in-two Canadians will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime, but our goal is to obviously improve the cancer experience to help people live longer and improve their quality of life."
Thomspon joined the Canadian Cancer Society to have an impact on people that are affected by cancer, including survivors, caregivers, and family members. Jeff’s brother Perry passed away in 2018 after 2 separate battles with cancer.
On Saturday, you're encouraged to publish stories, photos and video between 6:00 pm and 8:00 pm.
