Hockey Brandon's Board has made the tough decision to cancel the remainder of the season effective Thursday (Feb 11) with the exception of the U-15 and U-17 programs, as their leagues have not yet been cancelled provincially.

Curtis Storey, Hockey Brandon's Board President, says they've been dreading this outcome but felt they had no other option, "The continued restrictions on indoor facilities unfortunately forced the decision. We all agreed that we've waited as long as we can, and it's now time to let this season go."

Despite play at outdoor facilities being allowed, Hockey Brandon is not in a position to move their programming to area community centres. There is just not enough outdoor ice available to support the various divisions and programs in an equitable way and so the decision was made not to pursue it.

Hockey Brandon is issuing refunds to its members following the return of team jerseys, which will be coordinated through team coaches in the coming weeks.

"Our programs would not be possible with the many volunteers who step up in various roles from coaches, to team managers, to the roles of safety officers introduced this year in response to COVID-19," says Storey. "On behalf of Hockey Brandon, we sincerely thank them for all they've done. We all worked hard to bring our players a piece of normalcy during these difficult times, and for a good stretch, we did just that. Kids were on the ice and there were smiles behind their masks."

Hockey Brandon had 722 players registered in their programs this season.
