The Manitoba government has proclaimed it "Tech Week".
The province says a strong technology sector makes Manitoba a better place to live, work and invest. The export of information and communications technology and interactive digital media play a substantive role in creating jobs and keeping young people in Manitoba.
Ralph Eichler, Minister of Economic Development and Jobs, also says information and communication technology has played a big role in the province during the pandemic. It's "helped our businesses and workplaces remain connected, expand markets and facilitate commerce during the challenges we have all faced this past year."
Kay Gardiner, CEO of Tech Manitoba, says they're thrilled about Tech Week. "This proclamation draws attention to the people that work in the technology sector and highlights the importance of tech to Manitoba's economy."
Information and communications technology is a significant contributor to Manitoba's economy, contributing over two billion dollars toward the province's gross domestic product and almost 36,000 jobs.
"New Media Manitoba is beyond excited that the Province acknowledges the value of Manitoba's growing interactive digital media sector and the impact it will have for generations to come," shares Louie Ghiz, Executive Director at New Media Manitoba.
