Oliver Okuliar scored his second hat-trick in as many days as the Lethbridge Hurricanes beat Brandon 5-2 at Westoba Place on Saturday night.
The Slovakian import has scored in seven straight games and has eleven goals in that span.
Linemate Dylan Cozens chipped in with three assists on the night as the Hurricanes completed a weekend sweep of Manitoba teams.
"I didn't like our first period. We were on our heels early and it set the pace," said Head Coach Dave Lowry. "They took a page out of our book. They were committed to a simple road game and we spent too much time in our own end."
Brandon got goals from Neithan Salame and Ridly Greig and was within one goal in the third period, but couldn't draw even late in the game.
Carl Tetachuk made 29 saves for the win, while Ethan Kruger also kicked aside 29 shots taking the loss in between the pipes for Brandon.
"Lethbridge play hard. They're physical and fast, but this one is on us," said defenseman Chad Nychuk. "We need to be dictating the play. We weren't working hard. We have to want to battle and compete every night. Everyone has to chip and be better."
Brandon will continue their three-game homestand on Tuesday when the Red Deer Rebels come to town for the first time this season. For the Wheat King coaching staff, the lack of consistent effort is a sore spot.
"The thing that concerns me is that we play well one night and then we don't get the same effort the next. That is something we need to address," added Lowry. "Red deer is going to play simple, big and heavy. We have to be prepared to skate, manage pucks and we better be ready to play."
