The City of Brandon is one of the partners in working toward establishing a preserve for the endangered White Lady's Slipper Orchid to be owned and operated by The Nature Conservancy of Canada.

Brandon City Council recently voted unanimously to support this effort by donating approximately five acres of land as part of the larger approximately 60 acres preserve area.

Back on April 24 and 25, 2021, it was brought to the City's attention by a neighboring property owner that an approximate 1.5 acres of City land identified for the preserve area had been accidentally tilled along with other privately held lands further to the east.

The neighboring property owner is working cooperatively with the City and the Province of Manitoba, who is responsible for regulating endangered species, to restore the land to the greatest extent possible as required by the province.

The City of Brandon will continue to work cooperatively with the Province of Manitoba during their ongoing investigation.
