Prince Albert, SK – The Brandon Wheat Kings dropped a hard-fought 6-3 decision on Friday night to the Prince Albert Raiders at the Art Hauser Centre.
The Wheat Kings found themselves down by a pair on two separate occasions but fought back both times in one of the most entertaining games of the season so far.
Luka Burzan scored twice for Brandon while Nolan Ritchie added a single as well as the Wheat Kings carried the play for the first two periods and outshot the Raiders 22-21 on the night.
“We liked our first 40 minutes, and to be honest the 2nd period was probably the best period we’ve had all year,” said Assistant Coach Mark Derlago. “Prince Albert is a tough team and we loved our push back tonight. We got down a couple times tonight and our battle level was there all night long.”
Ethan Kruger made his 12th consecutive start but was pulled after the first period. Kruger finished the night with four saves on eight shots.
Jiri Patera, who was dressed for the first time since ankle surgery, came on in relief and stopped 11 of 13 in the final forty minutes.
“In the third when they got up a couple goals, we stopped what we were doing. We had been having success getting pucks deep and taking pucks to the net and we got away from that a bit in the third,” added Derlago. However, the compete level was there all night and you love seeing that against one of the best teams in the league.”
Brandon will continue their mini two-game Saskatchewan road trip on Saturday night when they head to Saskatoon to take on the Blades. (7:05 on QCountry Radio)
