Luka Burzan scored twice against his former team as the Brandon Wheat Kings moved back to .500 with a 3-1 win in Moose Jaw on Tuesday night.
The win was Brandon's second straight win and first win in Moose Jaw this season.
"It had a must-win feeling tonight," said Assistant Coach Mark Derlago. "When you get 40 shots on a goal and the game is tied late, you start gripping the stick a little tight. We stuck with it though and got the job done."
Ethan Kruger made 23 saves for his 8th victory of the season but it was Adam Evanoff who stole the show between the pipes, making 36 saves and giving the Warriors every opportunity to win the hockey game.
With the win, Brandon moves into a tie with the Saskatoon Blades for 3rd place in the East Division.
After two tough losses to the Winnipeg ICE coming out of the Christmas break, the Wheat Kings had lost some ground on both the ICE and Blades in the divisional playoff race.
"We know where teams are in the standings and the boys know what they need to do every night," added Derlago. "We wanted to get back to .500 after a tough start to the second half and we've bounced back nicely with two straight wins here."
Brandon welcomes Prince Albert on Friday night before heading to Regina for the first time this season on Sunday afternoon.
