The Brandon Wheat Kings picked up their eighth straight victory on Wednesday night, beating Swift Current 4-1 inside the Subway East Division Hub. The win moves Brandon three points up on Saskatoon for top spot in the division.
“I like how we played the game tonight,” said Head Coach Don MacGillivray. “We played with lots of energy and had lots of chances. Their goaltender was outstanding tonight.”
Nate Danielson (1G-1A), Chad Nychuk (1G-1A) & Ridly Greig (2A) each had multi-point nights for the Wheat Kings who peppered Broncos netminder Isaac Poulter with 37 shots.
Connor Ungar was just as good at the other end of the ice, despite not being as busy as his counterpart. The Calgary native earned his third win of the season, turning in a 20 save performance.
Dating back to 2019, Brandon now has a nine-game winning streak vs the Broncos. On this eight game winning streak, the Wheat Kings have outscored their opponents 41-14.
“We battled hard tonight,” said Jake Chiasson. “I have to give credit to Swift Current and (Isaac) Poulter especially. Those guys are competitors. There is not an easy night in this division.”
Brandon gave Lynden McCallum, Marcus Sekundiak and Nathan Salame the night off while Jaxon Dubé remains out of the lineup with a lower-body injury.
The Wheat Kings will take on the Regina Pats on Friday afternoon. (5:00 on Q Country Radio)
