COVID-19 travel restrictions are still in place, and as we move into summer, Manitoba is expecting fewer out-of-province visitors, so Travel Manitoba has created a campaign to encourage us to explore the province.
The organization’s CEO Colin Ferguson says the promotion is called “Home Is Where The Heart Is” and “this is your opportunity as a Manitoban to show Manitoba some love this year and move about the province.”
He says we should follow public health restrictions, like physical distancing, when heading out this summer – but as more and more restrictions are being lifted, Manitobans are getting excited about having some summer fun.
“They’re inquiring about bookings , they’re inquiring about campsites, they’re inquiring about resorts, they’re wanting to get out and fish some of Manitoba’s incredible waters,” says Ferguson. “That’s beginning to happen, which is terrific, and it’s stimulating the economies of those local communities.”
Ferguson says there are a ton of ideas on Travel Manitoba’s website (a link is available below) including all the faves like hiking, camping, canoeing, and golfing – and he says don’t forget the food. “Restaurants have really struggled (through the pandemic), so show a little love to those restaurants this summer – try a patio, try and eat in – they’re ready for you, they’re prepared for you and they need some of your help again.”
Ferguson also says spending your vacation in Manitoba will not only give the economy a much-needed boost, but it’s also an excellent way to reconnect with your home province.
