After a bit of a delay this week, the dock is going in today (July 13) at the Brandon Riverbank Discovery Centre for their new Kayak Cove on the Assiniboine River.
“It’s going to be a fully accessible kayak/canoe launching dock open to the public to be used by anyone with their own vessel, and we’ll also have rentals here from A & L Cycle,” says Discovery Centre GM James Montgomery. He says they’ll start with one canoe and 4 kayaks for rent along with paddles and lifejackets.

“$15.00 only for an hour, and then if want to take it for more than an hour, or if you have it out for 4 hours, it’s $10.00 a hour after that,” says Montgomery. He says it’s great to get the project completed especially after delays this spring due to flooding and a wait for funding last fall.

The $179,000 Kayak Cove project received grants from Ottawa, the province, the Brandon Area Community Foundation and the City of Brandon.
The dock will open Thursday, July 14th and can be accessed via a trail south of the Discovery Centre building. Montgomery says “We’re really looking forward to welcoming the community out and provding some more access to the Assiniboine River.”
