The Brandon Wheat Kings picked up their third-straight victory on Saturday afternoon, 4-1 over the Moose Jaw Warriors.
The Wheat Kings fell behind late in the opening frame, but Jake Chiasson scored with just 1.1 seconds left on the clock, to even things up at the intermission.
“It was a big goal late in the period,” said Head Coach Don MacGillivray. “Especially when we played really well in the period. We scored some highlight reel goals in the second and did our business in the third. It was a good win for us today.”
Ben McCartney carried the mail for the Wheat Kings in his 200th career WHL game, scoring once and adding a pair of assists. The Arizona Coyotes prospect has at least a point in all but two of his club’s games this season.
Linemates, Jake Chiasson (1G-1A) and Ridly Greig (1G-1A) each found the back of the net as the Wheat Kings move back into a first place tie with Saskatoon atop the East Division.
“Both Ben and Ridly have such a chemistry together,” added MacGillivray. “They have turned into a really dominante pair and (Jake) Chiasson has complimented them nicely. They are dangerous every time they are on the ice.”
Lynden McCallum rounded out the scoring for the Wheat Kings who got 19 saves from Ethan Kruger.
The game was the finale in the season series with the Warriors. The Wheat Kings won three of the four meetings, and bring a three-game winning streak into another big game on Sunday afternoon vs Winnipeg.
“We’re getting back to the way we were playing on that last win streak we had,” said Jake Chiasson. “We’ve simplified our game, got back to the system and we’re playing our best hockey right now. We just have to keep it going.”
The Wheat Kings and ICE meet at 5:00 on Sunday afternoon. (4:30 on Q Country Radio)
