It was a sweet science trip south of the border to remember for Noel Harding.
The Brandon boxer is back from Catskill, New York, where he trained at the historic Cus D’Amato’s Gym, where former heavyweight champs Mike Tyson and Floyd Patterson got their starts.
"When I walked right in it was really cool because I assumed that it be modernized, but like many boxing clubs it wasn’t. It was pretty much like it was in the 1980’s," Harding told Tyler Crayston and Lanny Stewart on CKLQ’s Monday Sports Talk. "They had the original newspaper clippings of Tyson when he first won the title and you could see they were 30 years old."
Harding is hoping his recent week-long training session will lead to signing a contract with Iron Mike Productions.
The opportunity came about after a recruiter with the company saw one of Harding’s knockouts on the internet.
"In that sparring they saw that I had determination," said Harding. "The lady that was doing my evaluation told me that she thought I was very tough. That was good, but it’s nothing I didn’t know before I left, but at least now they know it. All I can do is hope for the best and see if they see some potential."
Harding sports a 3-0 record as a pro fighter.
