The organizers of a trucker protest convoy, headed to Ottawa to rally against the federal government’s COVID vaccine mandate requiring drivers to be fully vaccinated in order to cross the Canada-U.S. border, have sent out a news release saying ‘History is being made right now!’
They’re calling the protest ‘Canada Unity – Bear Hug 2.0’.
The release goes on to say the ‘national event…is uniting Canadians from coast to coast. An event of this magnitude has never before been witnessed in Canada. Many Canadians, including thousands of truckers, have said: “ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!”‘ The convoy is expected to reach Brandon at 11:00 am Jan 25th.
The Canadian Trucking Alliance, meanwhile, has come out against the protests. In a statement, “The Canadian Trucking Alliance does not support and strongly disapproves of any protests on public roadways, highways, and bridges. CTA believes such actions, especially those that interfere with public safety, are not how disagreements with government policies should be expressed.”
They also say the ‘vast majority’ of Canadian trucking industry members are vaccinated, and the immunization rate among drivers is on par with what’s being seen among the general public.
Alliance President Stephen Laskowski also called for still greater compliance in light of the fact that both Canada and the United States have cross-border vaccination rules in place.
