Like most People, I’ve been leaning into Social Media more than ever since the Pandemic began. In lieu of real contact – it’s been a blessing to many people.
But not ALWAYS.
Do you ever find yourself wishing it was… gone? I’ll admit I’ve kind of been pining for the 90’s lately. I mean – the Internet was THERE if you wanted it… but it wasn’t ALWAYS THERE. Looks like a lot of people feel differently than I do.
While there are some good things associated with social media, there are also plenty of bad things, but apparently they are not enough to get people to give up their social media addiction.
- A new survey asked social media users whether social media intensified feelings like anxiety, depression, difficulty concentrating, loneliness or low self-esteem.
- Overall, 50% of those polled agreed that social media “somewhat” intensified those feelings.
- 20% say those feelings were “very” or “extremely” intensified by social media.
- But even though social media can be harmful to their mental health, only a third would be willing to cut back on their social media use either by deleting or suspending their accounts, turning off their phones, or limiting content in their feeds.
- In fact, when asked how much money it would take to get them to permanently delete all their social media accounts, more than 70% said $10,000 or more.
- 20% actually said they’d need at least $1 million to cut themselves off.
- And believe it or not, another 40% would keep their accounts over their cars, TVs and even their pets.
