The spring season in Manitoba is busy for many families. With the end of the school year and running from the soccer pitch to the ball diamond, you can feel like you are living in your car. But COVID-19 has changed the face of spring. So could it be time to discuss a summer sports season? With travel outside Manitoba still requiring 14 days of isolation when you get home, many families may not have the summer vacation away that they were planning.
The Province of Manitoba has not yet announced a start date for "Phase 2" of restoring sevices, but the draft document says this about sports:
Organized activities can resume as long as precautions are taken, such as physical distancing and enhanced cleaning of equipment and indoor spaces. Each sports organization and/or facility must establish a plan for how to minimize physical contact between participants. Outdoor activities are lower risk for transmission of COVID-19 than indoor activities.
So would it be possible to see the kids play even a partial season of baseball or soccer? Would you sign your kids up?
