Parents are up in arms about the latest Netflix release!
Netflix is under fire right now for it's latest release. The french movie Cuties debuted last week and it's been fraught with controversy even before it landed on the streaming service. The poster for the film and the trailer were highly criticized for over sexualizing the young girls at the center of the film.
The movie follows a young girl from a conservative family and joins a free-spirited dance crew. The girls in this dance troop are all around the age of 11, so seeing a group of young girls dancing in a sexualized manner at such a young age is a sore spot for many. A couple of days ago, the hashtag #cancelnetflix was trending on twitter because of the film. However, on the opposite end of things, the movie is reviewing fairly well with A 90% rating on Rottentomatoes from critics. The audience reviews are another story, only sitting at 11%.
Regardless of your thoughts on the film, the one thing we shouldn't be doing is threatening anyone involved with it. Director Maïmouna Doucouré has received death threats for the film, and it's absolutely deplorable. Have you watched Cuties? Is it as bad as people are making it out to be? Is it worse? Is it fine?
