While most of Westman is back, some home working arrangements are becoming permanent.

Working from Home

More and more companies are announcing home work plans for staff.

Does the end of your August Long Weekend mean the end of working from home? Or did you move your home office back to work earlier this Summer? At one point, 60% of Star listeners were working from home in Westman during the COVID pandemic. And with the most recent poll putting that number at 1/3 a few weeks back, permanent work from home looks like it might be more of the exception instead of the rule.

But that's not the case with all workplaces. Some employees won't return to their offices until at least 2021, while others might never see their office again. Twitter got the ball rolling in mid-May when it announced that some of its employees could work from home forever. And just last week, Google announced its employees will work from home until 2021. With school and daycare shutdowns, women are getting hit hardest by the pandemic recession, according to the IMF, and some companies are shifting to recognize that. Will you continue to work from home this fall or even into the news year? These companies announced that employees won't be going back to the office until at least 2021:

  • Google
  • RBC Bank and TD Bank
  • Universal Music Group
  • Warner Music Group
  • Sony Music
  • Amazon corporate
  • Viacom
  • Scotiabank
  • RBS (Royal Bank of Scotland)
  • Group Nine Media
  • Indeed

These companies told their employees that they don't ever have to come back to the office:

  • Facebook
  • Twitter
  • Square
  • Slack
  • Shopify
  • Zillow
