Portage, MB – The Brandon Wheat Kings dropped a 5-1 decision to the Winnipeg ICE on Saturday night at Stride Place in Portage la Prairie.
Cole Muir (1G-1A), Connor McClennon (1G-1A) and Matthew Savoie (2A) each had multi-point nights for the ICE, who picked up their first win of the WHL pre-season.
Brandon’s lone goal came off the stick of Jonny Hooker.
Will Gurski made his 2nd straight start between the pipes for Winnipeg and stopped 22 of 23 shots he faced. Connor Ungar started the game for Brandon and turned aside 14 of 18 shots while Ethan Kruger stopped 11/12 in one period of action.
Brandon’s powerplay went cold on Saturday after a three-goal performance on Friday. The Wheat Kings finished the night 0/5.
The Wheat Kings have two more pre-season games before the real bullets fly on September 20th. Brandon heads to Moose Jaw on Friday before wrapping up at home on Saturday night vs the Warriors.
