Saskatoon, SK (CKLQ) – For the 17th time in 18 years, the Brandon Wheat Kings will play in the WHL Playoffs. The Wheat Kings punched their tickets to the post-season with a 4-2 win over the Saskatoon Blades on Saturday night.
The Wheat Kings got goals from four different players on route to their 3rd straight victory. Linden McCorrister (1G-1A), Stelio Mattheos, Luka Burzan and Cole Reinhardt all scored for Brandon who got a stellar performance from Dylan Myskiw.
Myskiw, who was making just his 8th appearance since the WHL Christmas break was named the game’s First Star after turning aide 29 shots, including a handful in highlight reel fashion. Myskiw is likely to be the starting goalie for at least the immediate future as Logan Thompson is listed as day-to-day with a lower-body injury.
Despite a late third period push the Wheat Kings held on for the two points, which proved to be important when it comes to playoff positioning. For the 9th consecutive game, the Prince Albert Raiders also won keeping pace with the Wheaties in the race for the #1 Wilcard spot.
Saskatoon’s goals came from Josh Paterson and Michael Farren, one of which came with 0:01 left on a man advantage. The Blades finished the night 1/5 on the PP while Brandon was 0/4.
Brandon will wrap up this three-in-three weekend this afternoon vs the Moose Jaw Warriors. (5:00 MB time on QCountry Radio)
