The CIS women’s volleyball championship has Westman flavour on the sidelines.
Souris-born Rick Scott is in his sixth season as coach of the Dalhousie Tigers, who are seeded sixth and take on the third-seed Trinity Western Spartans in the quarter-finals on Friday in Regina.
Scott and his Tigers are back at the national tournament for a second straight season after repeating as conference champions.
"Being there the last year is just invaluable experience for the girls," Scott said on 880, CKLQ’s Monday Sports Talk.
The 2013 AUS coach of the year cut his teeth with the Glenboro Panthers and Lord Selkirk Royals before making the jump to university.
He guided the Panthers girls’ team to a provincial A title in 2001 and then the Royals to four straight AAAA championships from 2004 to 2008.
"You learn from those experiences. Playing in those big matches with big crowds and pressure is an important experience for coaches to go through and deal with," said Scott.
Scott’s full conversation with Tyler Crayston and Lanny Stewart is below…
