The Canadian College Women’s Basketball Championship has Brandon Bobcats flavour.
Former CIS all-Canadian and BU men’s star Dan Charlery is the head coach of the Quest University Kermodes, who recently won the Pacific Western Athletic Association to secure their spot for nationals.
Charlery was a member of the Bobcats when the team finished runner-up at the 2007 CIS championship and he’s leaning on that experience as he prepares his group.
"I share that with them," Charlery said on this week’s edition of Monday Sports Talk on 880, CKLQ. "I’ve been there so I know what to tell them, what not to tell them and try to keep them ready and keep them focused. I understand what they’re going through because when we ended up going to nationals I was feeling the same kind of energy they were feeling."
Brandonite and ex-Lady Cat Aimee Johnston is on the roster and was named player of the game in the conference final for the squad from Squamish, B.C., who captured the school’s first-ever title.
The national tournament is running Thursday through Saturday in Montreal.
Charlery’s conversation with Tyler Crayston and Lanny Stewart is below…
