The Winnipeg Blue Bombers want to be more involved in Brandon, but it won’t be through training camp.
The Bombers held their training camp ni the Wheat City for several years in the 1990’s, but Winnipeg President and CEO Wade Miller said on Friday’s Feedback program on CKLQ that, logistically, it isn’t possible to pick up the team for two weeks and make the move to Brandon.
"Back when we had training camp out here, we were limited in the old stadium. Now we have a world-class facility that just allows us to get a lot done," said Miller to a caller on the show, "The technology has moved so far that watching film and the way you run and see all the video after practice, you just can’t do that anymore without being in your room and the rooms that are connected."
Miller did reveal on Friday’s show that the Bombers are working on a ‘mobile unit’ that will be prominent in attendings events in communities around the province.
"You’ll start to see us out in the festivals a lot more. It’s an interactive vehicle and we’re going to sell merchandise out of there," said Miller, "A stage comes out, you’ll be able to walk in and it looks like you’re standing on a football field. You’ll be able to have your picture taken with a locker that’s from our locker room at Investors Group Field."
The unit will also include other games and activities, particularly for kids.
Here’s CKLQ’s Bruce Luebke’s full conversation with Wade Miller from Friday’s edition of Feedback…
