The Virden Oil Capitals look to bounce back from series-opening loss when they host the Dauphin Kings in Game Two of their Sher-wood Division Final tonight (7:30 p.m., Tundra Oil & Gas Place).
The Oil Caps fell behind 3-0 in dropping a 4-2 decision in Game One on Sunday, and Virden GM/Coach Troy Leslie said on CKLQ’s Monday Sports Talk this week that gaining early momentum is important for his club.
"We seem to be a team that plays fairly well when we score the first goal, and that was fairly evident in our last series against Swan as well," said Leslie, "It’s important for us to get a quick start, get the first one and build on that."
Virden rallied from a 2-0 series deficit to win the final four games of their first round series against Swan Valley so being down in this series isn’t all that alarming at this point.
However, Leslie says they do have to show more composure and be a little more precise in their play.
"They’ve got four lines that can make you pay offensively. They’re a very composed team as well," said Leslie, "They sit back and they wait for their chances and then, when you do provide them with an odd-man rush, they usually make good on it and having a really good scoring chance or a goal."
Here’s Leslie’s chat with Tyler Crayston and Lanny Stewart from this week’s Monday Sports Talk on CKLQ…

One member of the Oil Caps got good news Monday as Artsiom Kalashnikov was named the Manitoba Junior Hockey League’s Player of the Week.
Kalashnikov had three goals and six points in three playoff games last week and currently leads the MJHL in playoff scoring with four goals and ten points in seven games.
Among Kalashnikov’s goals last week was the double overtime winner in the decisive Game Six of Virden’s first round series with Swan Valley.
