The Neepawa Tigers’ recent track record has reached history making heights.
The team capped off their 2013-2014 season by winning both the Westman High School Hockey League and ‘AA’ provincial titles for the second time in three years.
"It was one of those things where I said to them that it’s an accomplishment that may never be matched again," coach Gary Salmon told CKLQ’s Tyler Crayston. "They can take pride in the fact that they were part of that, no one can take that away from them, no matter what they do or where they go. They can carry that accomplishment and the pride that comes along with that for the rest of their life."
Neepawa’s lineup had 11 senior players including captain and forward Garrett Rempel along with netminder Brady Plett, who were both recognized as provincial and league all-stars.
"Each and every one of them took personal ownership in the success that they were going to have this year," said Salmon. "They really worked hard to get a team that was committed to playing the best hockey they were capable of no matter what the circumstances were. It didn’t matter whether we were up or down, those guys were making sure everyone on the bench was part of what we had going on."
Overall, the Tigers have won three of the past four league titles and a record-setting three consecutive provincial crowns.
Neepawa’s only blemish on their remarkable run was a semifinal finish in league play in 2012-2013.
