In a month where so many personnel changes are taking place on top-level curling teams, the Olympic women’s curling championship have announced their sticking together for the next four years.
Jennifer Jones and teammates Kaitlyn Lawes, Jill Officer and Dawn McEwen made the announcement via a Canadian Curling Association release Tuesday.
"We are excited to officially announce that our team is fully committed to staying together and working hard to get another chance to represent Canada at the Olympics," said Jones in the release, "We truly enjoy playing together, and we share the same goals and commitment. And now that we’ve been to a Winter Olympics, the desire to get to another one will make us work even harder for the next four years."
The squad won Olympic gold at the Sochi Games last February and are closing out the season at this week’s World Curling Tour Players’ Championships in Summerside, PEI.
As far as next season is concerned, Jones will participate at the 2014 Canada Cup of Curling, Dec. 3-7 in Camrose, Alta., and the 2015 World Financial Group Continental Cup in Calgary, and will be in the Manitoba playdowns in hopes of playing at the 2015 Scotties Tournament of Hearts, Feb. 14-22, in Moose Jaw, Sask.
The Jones team did announce one change as coach Janet Arnott won’t be returning and has decided to devote her time to friends and family.
