A big win for the host Dauphin Kings at the Western Canada Cup on Tuesday night.
Brent Wold completed his hat-trick 42 seconds into overtime to give the Kings a 4-3 victory over the MJHL Champion Winnipeg Blues, improving their record to 2-and-1.
The win means the Kings have their fate in their own hands when it comes to where they can finish in the standings.
Brandon product Mitch VanTeeling had the other goal for the Kings while Jackson Keane had a goal and an assist for the Blues.
Jordan Piccolino made 28 saves in the Dauphin net while Byron Spriggs turned aside 19 of 23 shots in goal for the Blues, who fall to 1-and-2 with the loss.
Tuesday’s other game saw Carson Samoridny score a power-play goal 7:13 into overtime as the AJHL Champion Spruce Grove Saints edged the SJHL Champion Yorkton Terriers 3-2.
The result leaves both teams with records of 1-and-2.
Wednesday’s only game has the 2-and-0 Coquitlam Express taking on Yorkton (7 p.m., Credit Union Place).
