The Yorkton Terriers clinched a playoff spot at the Western Canada Cup in Dauphin on Wednesday night.
Brett Boehm and Chase Norrish had a goal and an assist each as the SJHL champions defeated the B-C champion Coquitlam Express to finish the round-robin with a 2-and-2 record.
Tayler Thompson and Dylan Johnson also scored for Yorkton while Joey Santucci had the lone goal for Coquitlam.
Kale Thompson made 24 saves in the Terriers’ goal while Gordie Defiels stopped 39 shots for the Express, who played without captain Ryan Rosenthal because of a lower body injury.
Coquitlam and host Dauphin Kings lead the standings with 2-and-1 record and will play in the final round-robin game on Thursday night, with the winner earning first-place and the loser finishing anywhere from second to fourth position.
"Being in first at home would be excellent and would give our team a really good chance to get to RBC. Winning that 1-2 game or if we happen to lose we’d still get another shot," said Kings’ forward and Brandon product Brayden Cuthbert on Wednesday, "Just being at home is so nice, keeps us in our routines and the crowd has really been behind us, it’s been getting really loud, so that’s obviously a bonus.
The other game Thursday has the MJHL champion Winnipeg Blues battling the AJHL champion Spruce Grove Saints, with the winner earning a playoff spot and the loser eliminated.
