Brandon University’s soccer teams will be competing in the Manitoba Colleges Athletic Conference next season.
The men’s and women’s soccer program were officially accepted as a member into the MCAC this week.
The Bobcats will join their Brandon neighbour Assiniboine Community College Cougars in the circuit, along with teams from Providence College, Canadian Mennonite University, Red River College and Saint Boniface University.
The BU soccer teams were club teams in the inaugural season last fall, competing in tournaments and exhibition games under the Manitoba Soccer Association.
No word if joining the MCAC is the first step toward the BU teams eventually competing in soccer in the Canada West Conference.
Currently, there are 11 teams competing in men’s soccer and 13 teams in women’s soccer in Canada West.
The University of Winnipeg competes in both genders, while the Manitoba Bisons and Regina Cougars only have teams in women’s soccer.
