Medora’s Trent Cassan and his Yorkton Terriers picked up a much-needed 3-1 victory against the Carleton Place Canadians on Wednesday at the RBC Cup National Junior ‘A’ Hockey Championship in Vernon, B.C.
"It was by far our best game that we’ve played in the tournament. We haven’t really put together a full game yet, we needed to, we were desperate," coach Cassan told CKLQ’s Tyler Crayston.
Russell product Derek Falloon drew back in the lineup after being sidelined with a concussion and helped the Terriers improve their record to 1-2.
"Derek gave us a big boost," said Cassan. "I thought he had a lot of good energy and he skated well. It’s certainly good to have a four-year veteran, who was pretty composed and calm out there on the ice and in the bench."
Yorkton is back in action against the Dauphin Kings to close out the round-robin on Thursday, with the first-place Kings sitting with a record 3-0 and have secured a spot for Saturday’s semifinal.
Yorkton defeated Dauphin twice at the Western Canada Cup, including the championship game.
"The two games we played with them were very tight, very back and forth and obviously we have to approach it as a must-win for us," said Cassan.
