Derek Falloon came through in the clutch for his Yorkton Terriers.
The Russell product was the overtime hero in Sunday’s final at the RBC Cup in as the Terriers pulled off a dramatic 4-3 comeback win over the Carleton Place Canadians.
"It’s hard to put into words," Falloon told CKLQ’s Tyler Crayston. "It’s an unbelievable feeling to go out in style like that. We couldn’t have asked for a better way to go out, that’s for sure."
The Terriers, who are coached by Medora’s Trent Cassan, found themselves 0-2 to start the tournament, before Falloon got back in the lineup after being sidelined with a concussion and his impact was immediately felt.
The 20-year-old centre helped Yorkton collect four consecutive wins en route to their first-ever National Junior ‘A’ Hockey Championship.
Falloon’s flare for the dramatics started in the Terriers’ final round-robin game where he also recorded the OT winner in a must-win to secure their spot for the semifinals.
"When I first got back in the lineup I just wanted to make an impact for the boys and help us get motivated. We had a slow start, so I just wanted to help create energy for the guys and I just happened to be in the right place, at the right time in overtime for those goals," said Falloon.
"I told all the guys that I’m very proud of them. How deep they dug. For Derek coming in and making a difference, he was the difference maker for us," said Cassan. "You’re proud of not just him, the entire team."
